Burgundy Sights and Wines from Paris France Description

Burgundy

The Burgundy region offers a natural heritage rich in both history and especially in art. Since ancient times, its geographic position made it a crossroads for communications between the Mediterranean and Northern Europe, which brought prosperity as its famous wines magnified during the Middle ages. A region of famous abbeys, departure point for the crusades and a pilgrimage centre, Burgundy has attracted crowds and political figureheads throughout the centuries. We will discover two reasons why.

After leaving the Southern highway, we reach the Serein valley at Chablis, surrounded by vineyards, visit a local cellar and taste the white wine, one of the world's best. Lunch in the Bistro des Grands Crus (or a similar traditional restaurant).

We then continue to Vezelay, the "eternal hill" village classified by UNESCO as one of its cultural world heritage sites. You will receive a guided visit to the Basilica dedicated to Saint-Mary Magdelena, centre of Romanesque architecture and sculpture, and which still keeps some relics of the saint. You'll have free time to browse around the village and the opportunity to taste other Burgundy red wines before returning to Paris.
